OZZY OSBOURNE's Black Jumpsuit From BEST BUY Commercial Being Auctioned For Charity
February 23, 2011The futuristic-style black jumpsuits worn by Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber in their recent commercial for home electronics chain Best Buy are being auctioned off on eBay, with the proceeds benefitting the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Best Buy is donating each of the $30,000 suits for this auction. Each suit is auctioned separately, but both are available for bids.
According to Tony Bridges of Examiner.com, Best Buy will re-air the Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber commercial during the 83rd annual Academy Awards with an alternate ending chosen by Facebook voters.
The original commercial, which was shot in January, was shown for the first time (in a 30-second version) during the third quarter of the Super Bowl game on February 6.
For the game, Best Buy ran an ad featuring Ozzy Osbourne trying to film a commercial, getting confused by technology and being replaced by Justin Bieber.
The original Osbourne and Bieber commercial ended with Ozzy asking, "What's a Bieber?" and a bearded Bieber saying, "I dunno… kinda looks like a girl." But Best Buy posted a series of Justin Bieber commercial alternate endings on Facebook and let viewers choose their favorite (voting ended February 12).
"We're delighted to have Justin and Ozzy help us tell the Best Buy story," said Drew Panayiotou, senior vice president of U.S. marketing at Best Buy. "We know people have high expectations for these ads, and Justin and Ozzy add a whole new dimension of fun."
Best Buy's marketing supervisor said, "Justin Bieber is the biggest star out there, but that's not why he's in the spot. He symbolically represents something important to the brand message." That message will target a younger demographic, as Best Buy hopes to change its image and evolve as an Internet provider technology expert.
One insider estimates that Bieber made at least $1 million for the ad.
The 83rd annual Academy Awards will air live Sunday, February 27 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.
