ROB HALFORD: I'm "Just A Gay Man Who Sings In A Heavy Metal Band"
July 29, 2002In a brand new interview posted at CNN.com, former JUDAS PRIEST and current HALFORD frontman Rob Halford notes that his decision to publicly declare his homosexuality back in 1998 hasn't hurt his career, even among the teen males who form heavy metal's core audience.
"The great thing is that the fans who support me are intelligent and rational and understand that this is a sexuality issue," Rob believes. "It has absolutely nothing to do with the music.
"I'm removing the stereotype," Halford adds. "There are gay and lesbian people in all walks of life, in all different types of professions. I just happen to be a gay man who sings in a heavy metal band.
"When I made the statement [that I was gay during an MTV interview four year ago], it was without thought or consequence, I just said it. ... A lot of people said, 'Yeah, so what?' A lot of other people went, 'Tell us something we didn't already know.' From that moment until now, I've been totally unaffected by it, which is the way it should be."
In the same interview, Halford reiterates his desire to reunite with JUDAS PRIEST for one last "round" but makes it clear that he's not necessarily interested in making another album with his former band.
"I would love the opportunity to go for one more round, as they say," the singer confirms. "I don't particularly feel up for a record, but I would love to just get onstage together and play again."
