Taking A Ride On TOMMY LEE's 360-Degree Drum Roller Coaster (Video)
July 20, 2011A WDHA listener took a ride on MTLEY CRE drummer Tommy Lee's 360-degree drum roller coaster during WDHA's Rock The Park 2011 event on July 17, 2011 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. Check out video footage below.
In a recent interview with GoUpstate.com, Lee revealed that his inspiration for the drum roller coaster goes back to when he attended concerts as a kid and it seemed that everyone would head toward the concourse for a bathroom break or to buy a beverage or merchandise when the drummer was doing a solo.
"All I know is they weren't watching the drummer, and I was like, 'This (stinks),man,'" he said. "That inspired me to build a riser that tilted up so that people were getting almost like a bird's eye top view. I basically kind of Frankensteined this thing into the fans going, 'What are you going to do next?' And once you get on that ride, you better bring it bigger and badder every time. Now, I've got my drums strapped to a damn roller coaster. We've always taken the money we've made and put it right back into production to bring people a show that blows their (expletive) mind We could have just as easily put the money in our pockets, but we're the kind of guys who love putting it back into the show."
He added, "It looks dope on YouTube and all, but it's one of those things that you have to see in person. The crowd goes bananas. And just when you think you've seen it all, I grab somebody out of the audience, and the fans go even more ape (expletive) because one of them is up there riding with me."
