'Waking Up Dead' Movie Featuring Ex-SKID ROW Drummer Receives Long-Awaited DVD Release

June 28, 2007

"Waking Up Dead", a film about the seedy underworld of '80s metal as seen through the eyes of SKID ROW and SAIGON KICK member Phil Varone, received its long-awaited DVD release this past Tuesday (June 26) via MVD Visual. The unflinching documentary was directed by Emmy Award-winning journalist Fabio Jafet and was filmed over a four-year period.

Jafet told Wireless Flash, "I had a great career at CBS and a great family, and all of a sudden I'm hanging out with an out-of-control rock star. The emotional toll on my family was huge."

But it wasn't rehab that Jafet retreated to.

Jafet said, "My wife was amazing. She put up with a lot of crap, like drugs and groupies, that no wife would want her husband exposed to."

But now, as a proud father, Jafet has done all he can to keep his kids safe from his dark past and movie.

He explained, "I had to edit the film at all hours of the night. I barricaded my office and usually worked from nine until four or five in the morning."

Varone previously said about the movie, "I traded everything … my family, friends and finances … all for my addictions and the world of sex, drugs and rock and roll. 'Waking Up Dead' is a great lesson on life for anyone who watches it."

A preview of "Waking Up Dead" may be seen on the film's web site, WakingUpDeadMovie.com.

Copies of "Waking Up Dead" can be ordered via Amazon.com.
