ZIMMERS HOLE Pokes Fun At Heavy Metal Maelstrom
March 6, 2008Mike Devlin of Canada.com reports: Should you find yourself in a band like ZIMMERS HOLE — whose prime objective is to simultaneously celebrate and ridicule facets of the heavy metal genre — guitarist Jed Simon asks you to remember one thing.
Have a good time whilst doing so.
"We're serious. But we're also very serious about having fun," the Victoria native said from his home in Philadelphia.
ZIMMERS HOLE, the go-to band if you want pyrotechnics, faux Satanism, and over-the top, often explicit antics, choose to poke fun at heavy metal's more scabrous elements, albeit in a serious way.
The music also happens to rock, which is immediately apparent on the Vancouver-based band's third and latest recording, "While You Were Shouting at the Devil ... We Were in League with Satan".
The recording arrives in stores Tuesday on seminal European imprint Century Media, which was once home to the now-defunct STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, a popular Vancouver group that included at various points most of ZIMMERS HOLE.
"We pursued it seriously, but we never really put that much stock in ZIMMER'S HOLE," said Simon, who has been in the group since its inception in 1991.
"It started out as a Friday night drinking band while STRAPPING YOUNG LAD was full-time.
"But we've had some time to focus on it, and thought, 'Hey, we're a pretty good band.' Let's do this for real."
