NASHVILLE PUSSY
Live! In Hollywood
MVDTrack listing:
"Live! In Hollywood" goes a long way toward capturing the true essence of a NASHVILLE PUSSY show. It is loud, obnoxious, drunken, and righteously rockin' beyond comprehension. It is a little thin on the bonus material side, but a few nuggets are certainly worthwhile. This one is all about the show anyway.
When it comes to a NASHVILLE PUSSY concert, the visual is every bit as important as the aural. There is just something about the band's "look" and actions on stage, and I don't mean that in some kind of self-obsessed display of vanity or glam worship sort of way. Blaine Cartwright is the man in the middle, the guitarist and mouth of the south that gives these white hot boogie rockers the personality and whiskey spittin' force. He's flanked by his wife and guitar icon Ruyter Suys — she of the proudly displayed cleavage — who cranks out amplifier-frying riffs and solos that meet somewhere between Angus Young and Ted Nugent. The newest addition (at the time of this show anyway) is bassist Karen Cuda who literally towers over the others with a punk rock look and brandishes her own brand of piss 'n vinegar, while holding down the bottom end with drummer Jeremy Thompson, not to mention sharing a mouthful of a Jack Daniels with a front-stage fan — as in, from her mouth to his.
That in a nutshell is NASHVILLE PUSSY and they brought the house down this evening, running through a host of favorites like "Come on Come On", "Good Night for a Heart Attack", "The Bitch Just Kicked me Out", and classic "I'm Gonna Hitchhike Down to Cincinnati and Kick the Shit Out of your Drunk Daddy". From the standpoint of production, the performance section is no-frills, but shot professionally with good sound and plenty of fantastic shots, especially of Suys' axe-worshipping (even axe grinding in her case) antics.
A few throw-away segments ("Adventures in France") and bootleg quality clips ("Australia with Pete Wells") are included in the bonus features (or "Pussy's Home Movies"). However, the "Mancow Morning Radio Show Live Performance" is a keeper and the "Interview By Lemmy" is priceless. If you're a NASHVILLE PUSSY fan or just somebody who loves his/her rock 'n roll laced with sex, drugs, and booze, then "Live! I Hollywood" will ring your bell.
