An Insatiable Violence

Few sensible people would dispute that CRYPTOPSY are one of the most revered, respected and influential bands in the world of death metal. The perennial problem has been that until fairly recently, it was never entirely clear which version of the band would appear at any given moment. It was fairly...

Kriegsgötter MMXXV

Still one of Germany's best kept secrets, MYSTIC CIRCLE have been unearthing supernatural horrors and blasting like madmen for the last three decades. For those in the market for some eviscerating blackened death metal, this review would like to refer to you to the band's recent studio albums, "Erzd...

The Great Satan

The devil is no stranger to heavy metal. The blasphemous and jarring cultural impact of BLACK SABBATH, VENOM, SLAYER and BATHORY, however authentic or not their "Satanism" was, isn't easy to match these days. Sure, some continue to spark the flame and push the envelope, but, for the most part, "Sata...

Steel, Rust And Disgust

MIDNIGHT have been a formidable and prolific force over the last two decades. Founder and chief creative force Athenar has never deviated from his love of filthy, speed-fueled heavy metal, and underground diehards love him for it. After two particularly great studio records, last year's "Hellish Exp...

GHOST are not metal. GHOST are too poppy. GHOST fans are idiots. And on, and on, until we all perish in a g...

Necro

As much as we should continue to celebrate the depth and diversity of the current death metal scene, there is still nothing quite like being smashed in the face by a band like LIK. Over three previous albums, the Stockholm quartet have stabbed and sliced themselves into glorious infamy, with a sound...

Blood Dynasty

As all sensible people are aware, ARCH ENEMY are deadly fucking serious about heavy metal. Over the course of 30 years, Michael Amott's virtuoso death metal band have defied all the usual rules and taken supremely heavy and brutal music to places that few thought possible. They have done it all unde...

The Screaming Of The Valkyries

Imperious mavericks in their prime, CRADLE OF FILTH have been on majestic form in recent years.
