ROB ZOMBIE Wants His Haunted House To Freak People Out

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Rob Zombie spoke with Loudwire about his Great American Nightmare horror and music exhibition, which is running through next Saturday (November 2) at FEARPlex in Pomona, California and is billed as one of the most advanced haunted house attractions in the world. Zombie said he's been pleased with the response to the attraction so far, explaining, "I've heard from a lot of people that have been totally freaked out and that was exactly the intention. People that design haunted houses for a living will tell you that many customers try and play it cool when they go through and act like it's not getting to them . . . Knowing that, it made me really want to push things so that even the guys playing it cool would have a least one breakdown going through."

Despite the attraction's success, however, Zombie is doubtful whether something like the Great American Nightmare could stay open all year, saying, "I'm not really sure it could sustain over a year . . . When Halloween comes around, people are really ready to be freaked out. But in the summer time and Christmas time, I'm just not sure a Halloween attraction would be successful."

Zombie told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that the neighborhood where he lives goes crazy for Halloween every year. "The neighborhood we live in is like trick or treaters central — literally we get thousands, which always sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not," he said. "You know, one year I counted how many trick or treaters we got, 'cause I knew how much candy we had, 'cause I actually counted it. And as I gave it out, I kept track just out of curiosity. And when it went over a thousand kids, I just locked the door and turned the lights off. I couldn't take it anymore. The whole neighborhood shuts down, it's the most insane thing I've ever seen."

Zombie may be home for Halloween this year, but he and KORN will kick off their co-headlining "Night Of The Living Dreads" tour a few days later on November 3 in Reno, Nevada.

Zombie has been touring in support of his latest album, "Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor", which came out last April.

Zombie's Great American Nightmare recreates some of the most infamous crime scenes in history and one in particular continues to fascinate the singer and filmmaker. He explained, "For me, anything having to do with what happened with Charles Manson is really compelling . . . When I moved to L.A. in 1991, one of the first places I went to was the house on Cielo Drive, where the Tate murders were committed, before they tore the house down. Anything place I could find in the book 'Helter-Skelter', I would visit. I still have not been out to the site in Death Valley where they were arrested but one day if somebody can take me right there, I would happily go along."

Rob Zombie has added a second headlining performance and charity auction to his Great American Nightmare attraction. The newly added date will take place on November 1. Zombie will also be playing the November 2 headlining show, with tickets currently available at the Great American Nightmare web site.

The charity auction, meanwhile, is running from now through November 2 and the prize item is Zombie's custom macabre-style 1967 Ford F-100 truck. All proceeds from the auction will go to The Puppy Rescue Mission.
