Halo of Blood
For the most part, CHILDREN OF BODOM has been given liberty to tool and tinker with their sound by their fans. Not everyone's a fan of the radical changes Alexi Laiho and his Finnish blast pack took on "Are You Dead Yet?", "Blooddrunk" and even their metal-mashed covers album "Skeletons in the Close...November 3, 2013

Wild Card
Floor Jansen is a proven dynamo and it's a lock she will emerge as a premiere figurehead in this scene. Now taking over for Anette Olzon on the NIGHTWISH tour, the former vocalist for AFTER FOREVER, MAYAN, STAR ONE and AYREON makes a second run with her agro-Goth metal ensemble REVAMP. By attrition...November 3, 2013

Ashes Of Ares
So good to see Matt Barlow back in the saddle. Having once bowed out of metal for a spell while answering a higher calling in law enforcement, the ex-ICED EARTH vocalist starts over from scratch with his own entity, ASHES OF ARES. Founded alongside estranged ICED EARTH bassist Freddie Vidales and fo...November 3, 2013

Nations to Flames
Former RED SPAROWES/BATTLE OF MICE guitarist and NEUROSIS visual artist Josh Graham clearly has a vision, broad in perspective as it may be. In the past few years, he's married his stark film visuals to his own interpretation of post metal and crunk, which has often created bleak and daunting compos...November 3, 2013

The Migration
Houston's SCALE THE SUMMIT have steadily risen to the upper echelon of the prog ranks. Since their 2007 self-released debut "Monument", this band has worked as hard as anyone to enhance their craft and each step leading to their latest work, "The Migration" has taken them one step further along in t...November 3, 2013

Freedoms Reign
Early-years FATES WARNING guitarist Victor Arduini spearheads his new group, FREEDOMS REIGN and as one might expect, there's a fair share of early-to-mid-Eighties L.A. power metal action going on in his camp. However, there's much more than that. In fact, the self-titled debut of Arduini's project t...November 3, 2013

The End of Time
Kentucky-stationed MOONBOW is the sludge-happy by-product of vocalist Matt "The Beard" Bischoff's (as in the Survivor 26 contestant and BMX mogul) reputed writing project that found him aligned with multi-instrumentalist David McElfresh from LETHAL and Hank 3's 3 and 3 BAR RANCH. Joining Bischoff an...November 3, 2013

The Sovereign
It's been a handful of years since Denmark's FEROCITY released "Cocoon of Denial", and if you're familiar with that album, you'll find things have grossly changed in this camp. It's not just the addition of new drummer Nikolaj Kjaergaard. Sure to get votes of approval from fans of the more brutal si...November 3, 2013

The Living Magisterium
Kicking about officially since 1999, the death-black metal fusion known as EMBLAZONED previously only had a demo, "Nocturnal Arsonist", and an EP "A Ceremony of Hellfire" to their credit, the latter arriving eight years ago. Now comes another EP for 2013, "The Living Magisterium", and despite the ex...November 3, 2013

Will of the Waves
A name that propagates curiosity by implication, Seattle's BONE CAVE BALLET is not your typical female-fronted prog metal unit. In fact, metal is a subtlety, not a given in this act. Nowhere near as ballistic as, say, JUCIFER, if you want to pare that band down to a much more stripped frame of mind,...November 3, 2013
